Art Print “Goddess Bagalamukhi - The Paralyzing Goddess” from Cycle of Artworks “Mahavidyas”

Inspirational text for artwork "Goddess Bagalamukhi - The Paralyzing Goddess” by author Mai Ram

I meditate on a jeweled altar in the middle of the ocean. On the altar stands a lion throne, on which the Goddess Bagalamukhi sits. I look at her golden face and at her perfection. She wears a yellow dress, yellow jewelry and a yellow garland. In her left hand she holds a torn out demon's tongue, and in her right hand she holds an upraised staff. Her body shines with gold, a yellow crescent moon shines on her forehead. O Goddess Bagalamukhi, You stopped the demon's rampage, tearing out his tongue You silenced his vile speech. I praise Your power to paralyze enemies and turn them into friends. I meditate on You, Goddess who bestows the eight siddhis, supernatural powers. And to the One who restrains the speech of wicked people by paralyzing their faces, destroying their intellect and turning their wealth into poverty.

Art Print “Goddess Bagalamukhi - The Paralyzing Goddess” from Cycle of Artworks “Mahavidyas”
Mahavidyas represent transcendental knowledge and powers. The ten Mahavidyas are the ten degrees of transcendental cognition. They are the sources of all that is to be known. Mahadevi, the great Goddess, also called Maya, causes captivity, leads astray in ignorance, this is called avidya. But it is also liberating. The ten Mahavidyas are the ten forms in which the Goddess brings enlightenment and liberating knowledge called vidya.
